Bowman County, North Dakota

Bowman County, North Dakota was originally created by the 1883 Dakota Territory legislature, but was decommissioned in 1903 due to a lack of settlers.

The proclamation of Governor John Burke reestablished the county in 1907, and it was permanently organized on July 5, 1907.

The county is named after territorial House of Representatives member Edward M. Bowman.

Bowman County, North Dakota is bordered:

  • on the north by Slope County
  • on the west by Montana,
  • on the south by South Dakota, and
  • on the east by Adams County.

As of 2012, the per capita personal income of Bowman County, North Dakota was $60,162.

2010 Population

As of the 2010 Census, the population of Bowman County, North Dakota was 3,151.

County Seat – Bowman

Bowman is the county seat.

2000 Ancestry Composition

As of the 2000 Census, Bowman County residents had the following identified ancestral heritage:

  • 41.1% German,
  • 28.1% Norwegian,
  • 5.3 Irish, and
  • 5.0% Polish.

As of November 30, 2013, there were no active drilling rigs operating in Bowman County, North Dakota.
